Question to the PH collective...

Reception is not great on our freeview box, often getting a crap signal just at the most inappropiate time when watching something, sound goes, blocky display, stalling etc. Is there such a thing as far as freeview boxes goes where the box buffers the signal for a predetermined time before playing it, say 10 secs or so, thus streaming a seemless signal to the telly.

If such a thing exists what should I be looking out for when choosing a box.

Cheers, peeps

John

Sounds more like a wonky aerial than the box itself.

That may be true but the picture on our media Centre PC is much better and does not distort unlike my cheap freeview box. This is using exactly the same aerial feed.

Is it "downstream" of the Media Centre PC?? We have The Nokia Ondigital Box (9250?), two Mitsubishi Adapters and A Humax 9200-T(Not exactly cheap). Providing they are first in the queue they seem fine!

With freeview you need the best box you can get - When I first tried it I had a philips box but even with a new aerial just couldnt get a decent signal. Aerial bloke took one look and told me that 9 out of 10 calls he gets are to low grade boxes. He carries a Sony box in the van, hooks it up and hey presto all problems gone. The philips one is apparently one of the worst despite ' winning ' loads of awards. I went out bought the Sony box and its fantastic never get any problems with it. Great signal and picture quality

Sony is great

You might need one of these (Televes DAT 75) as well (our is installed on a scaffold pole!)

Must admit my freeview box is a cheapy as we just wanted to try it out as we also had Telewest cable TV. As the cable TV suffers the same problem and it's just full of cr ap channels we thought we might as well ditch it and just go freeview.

Looks like we will be on the look out for a new LCD TV as our Tosh CRT has just developed another problem so will get one with freeview built in I think.

Cheers, John
