Absolutely brilliant, I know nothing about websites but James talked me through the whole thing in plain language. Nothing was too much trouble and he kept me informed all the way. Very reasonable too!

Register1 is good, banner top right

I use them for domains, can't tell you about hosting but people say they are spot on. (PHer JamieBeeston runs Register1)

Personally, got my hosting package from eBay biglaugh - has been brilliant for about 2years though!

Dave.

I have a question if I were to move to your hosting what is involved. Just checked my existing site and have 14000 images with 6000pages (dont know where they have come from!!) total size 1.1gb
I do need to create another site, separate to the above so will look at your options there. The name I am thinking about is available as a .com and .co.uk. Was going to operate under the .com, what is your view in purchasing the .co.uk as a defensive strategy?

simple, for £5.48, it costs less to just buy it than it does to spend 10 minutes thinking about if you should or not.

Just out of interest, who do you use Uncledave? You must get through a decent amount of bandwidth with your site?

BTW, Nice of you to put a countdown timer to my birthday on your site!

Go to www.Register1.net

type in the domain into the box, follow the onscreen prompts.

You will need to reupload your website alas, but once up, it's there for life

We've an offer on at present.. buy for 2 years, get the third year FREE also, a free domain on the VDS Pro accounts!

I'm with an eBay lot, Siterollout.com
However, now I think of it in detail, I sometimes have problems with large files being downloaded. However, great value!

If you dont mind the latency, different support hours and the image, and all you need is cheap hosting then the USA offers cheaper options..

Makes me giggle that siterollout host their website in the UK, but clients websites (yours Dave) in the US .. almost like they don't want to put their OWN business out there, but will do with clients

hehe, it's less about being tight, and more about buying based on your means / budget / requirements.

If you don't need a speedy UK site, and £2.75 a month is too much money (cost of a Reg1 VDS 3-4-2), then certainly a US based host makes sense if you NEED gigs and gigs and gigs of storage.

Latency issues will mean that download speeds are far lower than UK (speed drops as latency increases) but again, this isn't necessarily important to everyone.

We've all been students

I would like to go for the VDS, £3/mo is a good price, Its just the amount of bandwidth I churn through means the upgrades would rack up the price.

In time I will upgrade yes

I've just checked, in the last 3 years, only 3 clients have ever exceeded their bandwidth allowances... ever!!

how much do you actually use a month? most people rarely use anything over 5-10% of their allowances.

I'm at approx 40GB/month steadily - but I have a 50GB plan at the moment, for a margin of error

looking at nethosted, start at £30 and seem to have most of the stuff that register1.net have as X for the £49/year package

changing isp first, the current site will die, but got it all backed on the hard drive
