I have the mother of all home cinema systems and their has started a buzzing from the speakers. It's not very noisy, but enough to irritate especially in quiet moments in programs.

What would cause this, noise goes away if I switch off my amplifier/power amplifier.

I have:

Pioneer plasma
Artacoustic speakers
Denon 3806 amplifier
Denon 3910 DVD player
Arcam Power amplifier.

I've tried the connections at the back, but can't see anything obvious any tips?

Check that your audio cables arent running alongside mains cables - it could be 'mains hum' which is induced by the magnetic field from the mains cable into the audio cable. Its ok for cables to cross, but if they run alongside each other you will get hum.

Might not be this but you should check anyway.

Some points to consider:

1) Does the buzzing come out of all the speakers or is it just one? If just one, swap the speaker over to the opposite one and see if its the channel on the amp causing buzzing on the other speaker.

2) Does it buzz just on one source; eg DVD? Try running the tuner or another source and see if you still have the noise. If this cures the noise, then swap the interconnect cable over as there is a good chance you have lost a signal ground.
