I'm trying to set up a relationship between my XDA Exec (HTC Universal) and my Dell laptop through an aftermarket bluetooth adaptor. I can 'see' the device but I can't set up any services such as a serial link, an internet link, or synchronisation etc. Having checked my COM port settings, I appear to have lots (and I mean LOTS) of COM ports in use for some reason. I have the usual COM 1 and LPT 1 in the device manager, but if I go to the bluetooth device and click 'advanced' in order to try and set the COM port, all of my COM ports from 1 to 25 are in use but I don't know where. I'd like to delete all non in-use COM ports and try to sratr again, so to speak. I've had a look in XP help (which was no help surprise surprise!!) so I thought I'd turn here for a bit of advice. Any ideas anyone?

COM6 and COM7 are they key ports, its a right swine to setup.

Which bluetooth stack are you using?

The MS one or the BlueSoleil one?

As far as I'm aware, I'm using the MS one. All I did was plug the BT device into my USB hub and XP 'found' it for me. I know COM ports 6 and 7 are the important ones on the XDA for using a BT GPS with TomTom, but I didn't realise they might be specific for the laptop as well.
