Wireless ADSL modem router---through an NTL modem???
Discussion
If the NTL modem has an RJ45 socket then you should be able to attach the netgear to it and use it as a wireless access point. You might need to manually set the gateway on the client PCs.
I think it would depend on whether the NTL modem incorporated NAT.
Someone more knowledgable than me will be along shortly....

Just use the cable modem on ethernet and connected that to one of the LAN (not wan/adsl port) and then setup the wifi etc. To access the internet you will have to set the gateway on the client machines to the ip of the local side of the NTL modem, will workin fine and save you buying another cable/dsl router.
I have done it the other way round with a cable router and a 1 port adsl modem (ethernet) worked fine once I got the ip's / gateways sorted out.

Just moved into a mates house and he has an NTL cable modem.
I've got a spare ADSL wireless modem/router (netgear). Anyone know if there's any way at all to link the two up in order to wireless the gaff up??
I suspect there isn't...bugger

It depends on how good the ADSL Modem/Wireless router is. Most of the ones I've encountered will only route to the WAN port (which is sensible) which is where the ADSL plugs in to and it's not a RJ45 socket (4 wire RJ11 I think).
You can however buy a dedicated Wireless router that just has a single RJ45 on it and it's own NAT/DHCP for sharing out the connection (I belive my netgear jobbie will do this, although it's turned off and told to act dump due to network layout).

NTL modems don't do nat, so it will probably only work for one PC at a time. What you really want is a wireless cable router rather than an ADSL one.
His ADSL router probably already does NAT. The question is whether the ADSL router will accept an RJ45 ethernet connection from the NTL box in lieu of the incoming ADSL connection. If not a cross-over cable to the LAN side of the router from the NTL cable modem might work, but would bypass any firewall functionality of the router (and the NAT); not ideal.
RJ11 to RJ45 connectors are pence.
edited for clarity re Aldi's point

Sorry I'm having trouble following, its going to bypass the firewall but not the nat?

Ah sorry yes got it now see what you mean. I don't think an adsl modem will accept ethernet on the wan port as an input though so I suspect hes going to be stuck with one device at a time. Could be wrong of course, its happened before
