is this a virus?
Discussion
at the moment pop ups keep popping up:
'Symantec Email Proxy
Your email message was unable to sent because your mail server rejected the mail' and other such cryptic messages, with email address' that neither of us recognise
But i havn't sent any emails to anyone from this pc? The only thing that has happened is that my wifehas logged on to her university server and sent an email to her own email address, but i can't see why that would change anything
these blasted pop ups are infuriating me
does anyone have any idea?

Probably a virus or spambot running.
Go get Spybot S & D, AdAware SE and some form of virus killer that isn't all mouth and no trousers (AVG, nod32 being the cream of the crop IMHO). Install the first two, let them update and then run them one after the other. This should find any malware on your system.
Run your current A/V and if it pleads inoccence then repeat the steps in Safe Mode (tap F8 whilst booting). If it still pleads inocence then disable it's active protection and go to somewhere like Trend's Housecall site... let it loose.

not likely to be a nasty. So much of this going on its more likely someone has been sending mail with a return address of your email address. Spammers do this a lot just to confuse the hell out of people and try and get them to look at the mail. Alternatively it could be a fake returned mail with an attachement! If so dont open it.
