New iMac 24". That's my old PowerMac with 17" monitor (up for sale) next to it. Gives you an idea of size. 1920x1200 resolution cloud9

As a Mac user, I have to say I'm appalled by that. It's positively horrible.
How could you? I mean, just how could you conceivably think of buying an iMac 24"?
What in God's name where you thinking? That no one would notice it?
You need taken out the back, and shot, then hung for good measure.

Sorry, that desk is just so grotesque, that I couldn't contain my outburst.
Love your new Mac.....you bugger. Now I've just got to go and get mine after seeing it.

Anyone looking a moderately used 20" Core Duo?

Yes, it is a bit bright eek In my defence, it is part of a unit that was already there when I moved in. It was black, I just painted it and that was the only colour Homebase had in their kitchen cabinet range that wasn't insipid. I did try three other colours first!

...but back to the Mac. I think I'm getting a face tan its so bright cool

Next you'll be asking me to update my Acorn RISC Machines mouse mat? blah

Thinking about the 30" display for a task at work. 2560x1920 or something like that.

Anyone got one. I assume it can be driven from a standard PC gfx card?

The Apple one? Needs a specific card.

No it doesn't. It needs ANY card that supports dual-link DVI. Most medium to high-end cards support this.

Edit to add: just checking scan. Any of the Leadteck or XFX Nvidia 7950GTs, the EVGA 7950GX2, the Asus or MSI 7900 for starters. This should show a list of the cards Scan currently sell the claim to be dual-link in the description. I'd be surprised if some of the others aren't as well.

Which is exactly what I meant.

It won't work with any card it needs a specific card, I'm not limiting to one card just type. One that will support the dual-link input it needs. Can't be anymore specific than that, or am I missing something?

Sorry, in that case I misunderstood you. I thought you meant it needed a special, non standard card (like Mac Pros do which is very annoying and a whole different question).

There is nothing more specific than that. Any card that has a dual-link output will work. Care must be taken though as dual-link is not the same as dual dvi. Dual-link is a single port that can send twice the data of a normal dvi port. Dual-dvi is, of course, two ports. Some cards support dual dual-link so you can have 2x30" displays.

Personally if I was in the market for a 30" display I'd take a look at the Dell alternative. It's the same panel underneath, probably cheaper and has many more inputs (and I'm a Mac user!).

yeah - you can pick up the Dell 30" for about £1100 if you shop around ....its excellent, but if you intend on gaming then note you will need some cards that can run at the native res of 2560 ....so ideally you want a 7950GTX dual GPU jobbie or a pair of them...about £800 of graphics cards to get the best out of it in any modern game ...looks awesome though

Arrived on Wednesday. Only arrived in the UK on the Tuesday. A guy from TNT even called that morning to confirm I would be in 'around 2pm'. Amazing!

bow

You don't have it in 1920x1200 by any chance?

Take a look at the link I posted above to Scan. A lot of the NVidia 79xx cards they are selling are 2xDual-Link...

Sorry, I missed that - your feckin' desk burnt the retina out of my eyes so badly, I was traumatised and hospitalised!
The blackout glasses are working a treat now, so I can see some of the other things on your......ahem, cough, cough........desk.
But now that you mention it, YES.....get that mat out of there and a decent one in its place.

hehe
