Chronopay and SPAM
Discussion
Recently bought something on-line and paid via chronopay.
I use a particular domain for emails with stuff like this, and allocate e-mail addresses acordingly. In this instance it's chronopay@mydomain
Just started to receive a large amount of spam at this chronopay@ e-mail address, which is unique to chronopay. Not a problem for me to filter it out, but not the point.
My concern is how did they get the e-mail address and what other details have they got? Have contacted Chronopay, but so far heard nothing back.
Any thoughts, anybody else experienced this?

Company A sells it's contact list to Company B for £x per Y names.
It's quite common for companies to do this unfortunatley hence if you can, always make damn sure you tick the boxes for "Don't pester me" and "Don't sell my feckin details and have them bother me", that's assuming they actually give your the option and haven't just included the fact they'll do this in their terms and conditions.

Always do.

Since the post I've done a bit of research and it seems I'm not alone.
It's sexually explicit spam btw.
I use the same email address trick and had the same thing happen with a record company in the San Francisco.
I sent them an email asking how my address "yoshitoshi@mydomain" was suddenly getting spammed by loads of san fran nightclubs - they denied all knowledge, then when I pressed them they blamed it on "hackers".
Naturally this went down a storm since I had given them my credit card details along with my email address. I asked if they had informed the FBI at which point they clammed up completely and never again replied to my emails.
Funnily enough though the junk stopped, what a shock.

Now there's a thing. I've just started to notice a lot of spam coming from two sites where I've used Chronopay. (Your site wouldn't be a music site of Russian origin by any chance, would it?) I set up unique mail addresses so that it's obvious which sites are responsible for spam, and both my addresses to Russian music sites have suddenly started attracting this trash. PITA.

Looks like Chronopay are blaming their customer, but I don't understand how 'the customer' would have this e-mail address?
You could pursue this though - I assume under the terms of the agreement with chronopay the customer is not allowed to sell on email addresses, so they should terminate their relationship with this company?
