Hello all,
I've got a 3ghz processor, 1gb of memory a Radeon X800 pro graphics card and I get massive slowdowns on this game despite not having it on the highest settings,

anyone any ideas why this might be?? the pc seems to run ok on other games, I've installed the latest video drivers too...I'm baffled, not sure if it's a general issue with the game??

thanks,

Mike

Try hitting the machine with the usual malware stuff, hit ctrl+alt+del and look at the running processes, anything odd running that seems to be sucking CPU resources?

Nothing that I can see no...it's just slowing down massively and I would have thought that I'd at least be able to run it with low graphics spec smoothly, not saying the pc's top end but it should cope with that shouldn't it?

3Ghz CPU should mean the box can grunt its way out of any shortcommings of the GFx card yes (sorry not up on ATi's model numbering scheme).

I'd suggest trying the usual, reinstall the game, reinstall DirectX, run Windows Update to see if some seemingly totally unrelated patch to the OS will help. Try the latest patch for COD2 and possibly poke your head in to the COD2 forums and ask for help there as well.

Best thing you can do is create a Gamers account on your pc and in that account only let vital programs run at startup. This was talked about in PCgamer IIRC last month when I get home I'll have a look for it.

Only thing to make sure of when creating this account is that you set it to be have Administrator rights over the system. A lot of games expect it and aren't best pleased when they encounter permissions that are less than this (i.e. they refuse to install or crash out during loading).
