I've been trying to find some functionalty on the web where you can create your own customised route using Google Maps.
Yes, it will give you directions from point A to point B, but It won't let you edit the route using waypoints to create a hoon.

Are there any techies out there who would have a crack at this?
Basically a Google Map with a starting point then you can select waypoints and and end point and it then links them up with an overlay?
Same as Microsift Autoroute , but an on-line version.

Ted, wouldn't a 'Create your Hoon' be a good tool for PH ?

One of your technical monkeys should be able to do it.

Its Javascript driven, all it would require doing is GPS waypoints importing from an XML file and then joining the way points.

Yep, good idea. Quite possible, but it's quite time consuming doing this type of stuff.

Rather than importing the waypoints, was thinking more of along the lines of setting waypoints by click on the map, then it does a kinda 'dot to dot' ?

Possible either way, its a remarkably flexible API.

Then Ted could create a PH 'Hoonatics' page and a submit your hoon type scenario.

Most voted for hoon, top 10 hoons etc etc.

I went to Wales this weekend and took some advice from the chaps on here, but would love to have seen the route suggestions on a tool like this before hand, rather than searching maps and satnavs etc.

just a thought

I had a thought about doing the PH Good Restaurant Guide on a Google Map.

The other thing that it would be good as is a Point of Interest Database for import into TomTom etc.

Just image you had to travel the other end of the country on business.
Before you head off, you have a quick glance at the Ph Hoon map and see if there are any suggested roads near your route, and maybe even somewhere to eat in the PH GGG

I did all the counties up to and including those starting with H (if I remember correctly). Then I got a proper job and haven't had time to continue. It was Tomtom / Autoroute POI's, so should be a doddle to do with Google Earth.

Sorry to dig this up again, but I've just put together a google maps thingy for tracking the position of a boat I sail on that on it's way to carribean from the USA. It simply plots points and joins the lines up.

www.wingandaprayer.co.uk/?page_id=24

It's not showing much as they set off today.

It auto-zooms to the full plotted area and also sets the zoom so it doesn't zoom in too close.
It runs off an xml file that I'm updating by hand at the moment, but I'm working on doing it automagically from the daily emails they send.

Not ideal for road-routes but I'm sure it can be extended to do them.
