Looks exactly like what I would want if I decide to set up on my own... And best of all it's integrated into Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager.

Accounting/CRM/Contacts all in the one place sharing the same information. It also syncs with a PDA. Why would anyone want to re key information in half a dozen different apps anyway????

But it's currently only available in the US banghead

Anyone know when it's going to be available in the UK? I'm currently waiting for a callback from one of Microsoft's finest.

ACT or Goldmine are also worth a look.

Both have their positives and negatives.

I use Goldmine and 'er indoors uses ACT

Both integrate with Outlook and both have PDA functionality.

I've played with both but do they tie in with the accounting package? I really, really want one single information store with different interfaces and functions but sharing addresses etc.

Small Business Accounting looks like the missing piece of the equation, but it's not currently available in the UK banghead

Does it now.... I know Sage used to be a one way driver but since they've acquired ACT I suppose they've updated it.

And ACT ties in with Outlook? Last time I used it the merge was buggy to say the least irked

She uses it daily, seems fine, bloody flexible too.

Within limits, its a flat file structure so superordinate relationships arent really possible. Thats the only limitation I've found with it so far.

That may have changed in the later versions mind you, she uses ACT!6.0

ACT is very a very powerful bit of kit. As per Sage themselves

"ACT! is integrated with Sage Instant Accounts, Sage Line 50 and Sage MMS, bringing together the benefits of a superior Contact Manager product and Sage's market leading accounting software. So, you can manage both your business contacts and view their accounts at the same time, allowing you see which business contacts are more profitable than others, which contacts are late payers and when they last paid their bills. "

If your interested in purchasing any of the Sage products drop me a mail, I can sort you a deal. alistair@wright-it.co.uk

I also liked the look of SBA and contacted Microsoft (Partner Help line) to enquire as to when it would be available; "No plans for a UK release". It also doesn't appear on the Product Roadmap.

Of course, that probably means they'll release it next week

They're in no hurry to ring me back.. Aargh.

With all the tie ins to the Office suite and ODBC etc it looks perfect for what I want.... It's just unavailable. Bugger!

Oh, and it's cheap in the US....

I would imagine that VAT, multi currency and other issues is the problem. Making it compliant with the UK would be expensive and there are well established competitors in the market place. Ask an accountant what accounts package you should use and they will in all likleyhood tell you to use SAGE. This is because its easy for the accountant rather than the best package to meet your business requirements.

I'm sure they will, but Sage is an Island in my experience and doesn't have anywhere near the flexibility I want.

ACT does all the Office gubbins and you can get at the raw data with ODBC

As a contact manager I found it and Goldmine for that matter far superior to MSBCM

What use would you have for ODBC specifically?

Customisation of a database of support incidents tied to the customer. Historically every support incident has had a written follow up but thinking about it I wouldn't need to do that as I would be operating differently.

So Sage and ACT work well together? I think my view may have been clouded by the antiquated versions kicking around in here. If I'm actually spending my own hard earned it's gotta work bloody well!

You can create a file and link it to ACT using the SDK and then mine that info using any database engine.

ACT falls down on multiple support tickets for one customer, like I said about superordinate relationships, it doesnt do them well.

Surely theres an off the shelf support product available, probably even freeware.

Then you can use ACT or Goldmine or MSBCM for strictly pipeline/contact management.

Sage is getting better that said they do have to keep sending out fixes for there software I have just had one today for the latest 2007 version. To be honest it really depends on exactly what you want to be able to do with it?

Everything. It's not much to ask

I want to be able to create quotes when I'm supplying kit.
I want to be able to order what is on the quote from suppliers based on that quote.
I want to create invoices from the quote.
I want to know which invoices need chasing on which day.
I want to create mailshots, both paper and electronic possibly based on who has bought what.
I want to track any advertising spend and see what brings in business.
I want to know what quotes I haven't converted and follow them up and e-mail/phone them.

It would be nice to havev screen popping when the phone rings.
It would be nice if I could access sales prices/take orders while on site.

I hate re-keying data with a passion.

Screen popping in a residential environment is a bastard to get working reliably.

Its to do with the distinctly odd format in which BT send CLI data.

The VAST majority of 'CLI Aware' modems arent actually capable of reliably passing the CLI.

VOIP is a different story but if its PSTN its tricky.

Fair enough... it's only a "would be nice".

I'm sure there are far more important things to worry about when going it alone

Yeah but now, whilst you arent selling/fulfilling is the time to be arsing about with technology.

You're in much the same position I was and whilst I was in my time out phase I wanted to get stuff right. Theres just me currently but the infrastructure is almost infinetly scalable primarily because I'm a geek but also because I was sick of doing stuff in a roundabout way after years working for big firms.

I've mailed you about some stuff, now is the time to arse about in the evenings though leaving the time to 'ave it free for generating and fulfilling business.
