Our nice IT department have decided to stop any HTTP downloads for anything, but a way around this is to download via ftp.

does anyone know a ftp download site for DivX as it is required urgently

If its business related phone your IT team up and yell at them. They can either download for you or let you get it yourself.
If they're really up their own arse (or their manager is) about such things go home, download it, drop it on a CD or USBkey and install it on the machine from that.

If you can install stuff on your workstation at all then your IT department truly are muppets of the universe.

If it isn't business related ask them nicely.

Joy of large companies. Boss gets a directive to block port 80 downloads, so they do. If nobody's told them to set up group policies to deny people from installing stuff.... they won't have done it.

No not a developer, Civil Engineer, but IT Manager for 150 people in the division.

the IT department here grant all users Admin Privilages as default, but you can not download anything via HTTP. I have taken the steps of having my Machine on at home Using remote desktop and uploading it to my own FTP Server. And then downloading it to my machine.

The IT team are complete muppets here..

That's a bit arse about face isn't it???? Surely a competant IT dept would allow downloads but not allow you to install anything. Will dig around to see if I can find anything.

I have managed to download this through my home PC and bring in, but is a good illustration of how incompetent some IT departments are!

I presume they've just blocked the downloading of certain file types/MIME types. Else I guess you wouldn't be seeing PH from work.

Words can not discribe how i feel at the moment with the IT department chopping and changing the IT policy to suit there needs.

Completely fed up with this rubbish that they go on about.
