I have been experiencing some problems on my pc for some time now. Program not responding or crashing is the most common. That microsoft box that comes up saying 'Microsft has encountered a problem, blah blah blah. Do you want to send error report? blah..'
Turned out Norton antivirus was part of the problem, so now I am using NOD32 as suggested by the PHs massive.

Now. When scanning, the report is saying there was an error opening file (on many, including SYSTEM32/CONFIG) and file is locked.
Is this a common thing?

When I first used NOD32 after dumping Norton, it picked up a Trojan that Norton did'nt.

Yes normal, the files in system32/config (system, software, security) are the system registry and are locked while windows is running.

If you really want to do a complete virus scan, start your computer in Safe Mode and run the scan from there. Not particularly convenient and if you run your scan on a schedule I'd only recommend doing this once a month or so - the regular scan will do fine on a weekly basis.

I run Windows x64 and used to use Avast but experienced serious problems and it allowed through a serious virus at one point so I went with NOD32 - so far, so good.
