Hi all

I use Orange (formerly Wanadoo) broadband and am just coming up to the end of my 12 month commitment. While I have been happy with the service I need to now upgrade to their wirelss service as I have a new iMac which I will connect to their livebox via ethernet and my PC will connect wirelessly.

This change will commence another 12 month commit so a good time to look around to see if there is anything better!

I'm in Poole in Dorset so anyone know of any faster, cheaper, better offerings?

Avoid TalkTalk and almost poke your head in to the small print of deals that seem too good to be true.

In general terms there isn't a lot to seperate the ISP's from one another. Personally I used Nildram quite a bit although others have started moving away from them... not investigated why.

I went with Freeola as their minimum contract length is just 3months. Every broadband provider will have people raving and people saying they're crap. Freeola seem pretty good so far and when I've called them I've got through to a BRITISH person within a minute or two.

I've been with BT from the very beginning and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever.

I know they are expensive (and probably the most expensive), but I cannot complain, and to be frank, I'd be very apprehensive to move, considering some of the nightmares discussed on PH.

Avoid Plus.net - non-existent customer services. Nildram were recommended to me when I moved, though I went for BT in the end as my better half wanted the Home Hub. It's OK, though we're still waiting on the matching handset to be sent.

I would if I was not tied into a Vodafone contract for another 8 months!

Used to be able to say that (have used them for 10 yrs +) but now I'm lucky to have the circuit stay connected for more than 15mins - issued been logged as 4 different tickets over 3 months, but due to oursourced offshore 'tech support' my opinion of them is far from good.

Currently marked with the "not with a bargepole" tag...

Looking for a new provider that has real technical support (not script monkeys)...

Have a look at www.adslguide.org.uk
But... personally, after doing a lot of research I've recently (well, since this morning) been using NewNet and they seem very very good!

I've never had any trouble with Zen or Nildram - both UK companies. I believe mr nildram is a PH'er too.

I've just got talktalk, got me online date as promised, no problems as yet (although only 1mb, goes faster in new year) free calls, fantastic.... this alone
is cheaper by £15 a month with broadband thrown in for free. Great deal as I see it.

Are you actually running it now or waiting for it to be switched on? I fear the problems are just around the corner if it's the latter.

Checkout http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.

One disadvantage of going for the cheapest option is that quality can be dire, but guess you will have that to look forward to. Looks to be full of not happy people, but rest assured that it will not cost you very much as all that matters is the price

I am paying more than twice that amount for maxadsl with no fup or caps atm. Get to speak to local staff who know how to sort things
