wireless adaptor won't get ip address
Discussion
Ok. Are all the drivers correctly installed and does the USB port work correctly?
Depending on the OS depends on what you do. If it's WinXP-SP2 and your using WPA/WPA-PSK then let Windows manage the connection.
Open up the Control Panel, Wireless Connections and let Windows search. If your network is broadcasting SSID does Windows see it?
If not, try moving closer to the access point. If this fails then snag the newest drivers for the dongle from the manu's website.

Have you got MAC filtering switched on at the router ? IS DHCP enabled , and if so, have you got a scope with enough IP addresses set ?
Windows can lie via the GUI.
Open a cmd prompt (start > run > cmd) and type ipconfig /all
Scroll around, usual stuff. Find the IP address if anything is assigned. If the adapter has an address of anything other than 196. (or is it 169? I'm drinking) then it's probably good to go and Windows is confused, that being the case open a webbrowser and see if it works.
