Now that you've all had time to play with Internet Explorer 7, it's time to go and get the latest version of "the other" browser, Firefox.

Although not -officially- released by Mozilla yet, they've uploaded all the version 2.0 installers ready to publish the links to the general public tomorrow.

I imagine most people here would want the UK English Windows version.

For other versions, i.e. OS X, Linux, French, German, etc. you just need to furtle with that download link - instructions here on my blog (WildPla.net)

Enjoy!

It seems about 14% more spangly that 1.5.

Closing tabs is confusing.
It a lot faster too than 1.5.0.7; however I'm running it without extensions installed atm. The fonts look a bit more similar to the Win version too (using Linux here).

I agree and have just posted how to remove the buttons from every single tab header:
Firefox 2.0 - First Impressions*

Summary:
- browse to "about:config"
- type "closeButtons" into the Filter text box
- change the value to "0"

(* sorry, I don't want to seem as though I'm just spamming links from my blog, but hopefully it contains useful information)

I must confess I do like the tab close option (also use CTRL-F4) - and have been really happy with all the beta iterations of V2.

A huge thumbup from me for it.

What's the key feature for 2.0? Tabbed browsing was a good reason to switch from IE6 to Firefox 1.x, so is there an equivalent good reason to go from IE7 to Firefox 2.0, or are they pretty much of a muchness now?

Does anyone know if the Google Browser Sync extension will work with Firefox 2.0?

I don't think I can upgrade without it.

Using FF2.0 here now and I am liking it. Simple and very fast fast to install, stable and overall a quick piece of software.

It has totally fubared one of my colleagues bookmarks so I would say that right now it's not working. He's just trying to fix it right now.

As with any ff upgrade, it's worth exporting bookmarks before doing anything (lost all mine last time I upgraded to 1.5.0.7)

Does it still hog tons of memory when its being used for a day or so? It absolutely slaughters my laptop after a few days, needing an application restart to sort out.

Closing Firefox and restarting is hardly a major problem though is it.

Apparently it's all working now, but might be worth letting a few more people test it first

It is when its trying to page in hundreds of megabytes of virtual memory making my pc take over 2 minutes to refresh the screen from its sleep mode let alone be able to click the close icon.

FF comes up a bit slow when I suspended the 'puter to disc before, but no version since 0.7 hogged memory. What O/S are you using?

I've been testing both Firefox 2.0 and IE7 over the last few days. Firefox 2.0 uses far less memory than v1.5.0.7 did and compared to IE7 is far less memory and CPU intensive too. And that's through some pretty heavy use (no, not *that* kind of use!)

(edit for the usual spelling problems - I didn't enable that bit! rolleyes)
