Ok, bit of a numpty question I bet, but I'd like my cash to go to fellow PH'er, but I'm totally in the dark with website stuff.

There's both the .com and the .co.uk for the name I want, should I get them both or would just the .co.uk addy be sufficient?

I will not have a website as such, but I want my emails to be byff@mycompany.co.uk(.com), so will the free parking option be ok for this and have my emails redirected into my normal box that I use everyday?

Just a bit confused and I'm not used to doing this sort of stuff.

Well, I've just plunged straight into the deep end, and registered both .co.uk and .com under the free forwarding thing. Expect some stupid questions soon Jamie hehe

Knock yourself out. From what I have seen Jamie is used to all manner of informed (and not so infomred) questions from the PH massive, and always ready to help, even those of us who are not with him. (Yet).

(Zat mean Jamie owns Register1?) Jamie - do you own Register1?

I had no idea that there was a fellow PH'er behind a domain registrar - would well have looked at you as an option!

Bought over 100 domains over the past year (for sale via a dedicated website, which all link to their Sedo sales page)- through 123-Reg, whom I happen to be very happy with - but am annoyed with their recent tie-up with idiot Michael Knight. I went with them cos they looked to be 'serious' - but seem to have gone all teeny-bopper, which is what put me off all of the competition - e.g. can't stand the Godaddy 'look'.

The interface is still a good as it ever was - and reliability was key for me.

Jamie - for running a website such as say Friends Reunited (using that business model as an example of someting heavily database-driven) - how would you guys compare to Webfusion?

Thanks in advance!

Jamie

I want a domain name which is currently being held by someone else, all they seemt to be doing on it is listing other domain names for sale.

How do I go about requesting it from them? Is this something that you can help with; either by acting as an intermedury or putting it on a watch list in case they are slow in re-registering it or paying for the renewal>?

Thanks

Miles

Some existing customers may know this, if i purchase one VDS pro, is it possible to split the website between two domains or do i need two vds?

You can split it, I currently have 3 different URLs pointing at my VDS

But you have to choose one to be your "main" domain and the other(s) to be all related back to the main one. I've got 3 as well. yes

We mainly focus on Corporate / PLC / Large Enterprise solutions, ideally ones that require load balancing / high availability high end firewalls / server management and security, as such that type of project sounds just up my teams street.. with the added benefit of personalised service and contact from the Support Team.

We deal with a lot of big names, drop me a mail via profile and I'll send you a copy of our brochure.

You can contact them directly and negotiate with them, then use some form of Escrow based service to arrange the transfer, iirc Sedo actually do this type of business (but check the user comments listed above!) I can't vouch for them myself.

I can certainly assist with the actual Transfer of the domain to your control, but not really with the negotiation / purchase from it's current owner.

Indeed, the VDS's are bespokely created around the Primary Domain, all of the servers (web server, ftp server, mail server, imap server, pop3 server etc) are all Hard-coded to the primary VDS name, you can host as many PERSONAL sites (reselling from VDS's is strictly prohibited) as you like, but only one will be 'the daddy' site with the full control panel and branded webmail etc.
