Google Calendar - any good?

Has anyone used Google Calendar? I am considering using it to share local PH events hopefully with some low level security so the group can be more discrete about its intended driving events.

I don't want to have lots of Google promotions hitting people when they try to log in but it's not possible to know the level of intrusion without first setting things up.

A friend in Canada uses it to arrange his classes eh?
No complaints from him about it being intrusive or advert heavy, seems to work in all web browsers and whilst I guess Google will use their targetted ads system on it I can't see it being worse than gmail.
