I've been with tiscali ever since they've been around, but I'm finding it a trial lately. I have a 2Mbps connection that I pay £17.99 for. The trouble is over the last few months it has been getting slower and slower. The last bandwidth test I did returned 98.70 Kbps.

I know you can expect slower speeds at peak times like now, but that is the only time I use it. Clearly 98.70 Kbps is not acceptable, no matter what time you use it. The funny thing is, it used to be OK.

What's the best ISP to go with? As I'm thinking of changing. I phoned technical support just now and half way through got cut off. You'd think the bloke would call me back as he knows my number, I just gave it to him. I can't be bothered to go through all that again and then get a different person. mad banghead

Cheers.

Oh, and I'm pissed off talking to people on the phone I can't understand. banghead

You may have a problem with your line. Ring Tiscali and ask them to do a Woosh Atenuation Test. Alternativley you may be able to get your modem/router to tell yo the line status. You are looking for something like Receive Attenuation dB, Receive Margin dB, Send Attenuation dB, SendMargin dB. Post the results up and I can tell you if the results are within spec for 2MB.

Up to two months ago I was getting the speeds. It was always around 1.83 to 1.94 Mbps on the bandwidth tests. Could something have happened to the line since then?

Yes line faults can occur at any time. It may also be an exchange problem.
