You can either buy some proprietry software, like Magix Audio cleaning lab, but there are freeware versions out there.
Havnt tried it, but if you line into the sound card and play tapes, does Media player appear ?
You may be able to record like that, Im not very sure tho.

Thanks, I wondered whether a program would spring into life if I actually played a signal in - will try it.
I suppose at a pinch you could just use the Sound Recorder application built into Windows (Start->Accessories->Entertainment)? There are audio/video capture applications that might do a better job (especally if capture quality is important or you want to do any form of compression) but Sound Recorder gives you a cheap and cheerful solution.

Thanks, I looked at that and can't see where it gets its input signal from (or is is auto?) - also, apparently, the basic M/soft Sound Recorder only lets you record for 60 secs!
Goldwave is what I use for capturing the speakers from our seminars - I stick a minidisk recorder into the PA system then plug it into the line in on my sound card.
Works a treat. Although I paid for it (well, on work's CC
), the unregistered version is only limited by the amount of actions you can carry out. 150 or something. Which should be more than enough for what you want to do.
