Good, bad or just plain pointless?

Does anyone know when sp1 is available?

Does everything that Firefox has done for a while now.

Other than that, it killed my laptop. Uninstalled.

Just for balance I quite like it and it has given me no problems at all, in fact I prefer it to Firefox.

E-mail from head corporate policy bloke yesterday "do not install IE7. It messes up everything".

Ok I paraphrased, but they didn't like it very much

Had the Beta version and it worked fine, downloaded the full version and it doesn't work!! Loads up and then 2 seconds later closes down.

Firefox all the way!

Been using the final release since the day it came out, with no problems whatsoever.

Saying that, sites that have been written specifically to work with IE6 (which they should never have been) don't always render as you'd expect.

I have access to 16 machines, can be a bit greedy. evil

Have one installing IE7, one with Firefox, and some with IE6.

Thanks for the replies.

IE7 seems to be fairly good and is a looks to be a big step on from IE6.

It is probably a good idea not to use yet though if you want a trouble free life. The IT dude may have been suggesting that because of incompatabilities with other applications that use IE and also some rendering problems with sites.

Firefox 2.0 gives it a good kicking though.

Not starting a fight, but how? Firefox 1.x was miles better than IE6, but what makes Firefox 2.0 better than IE7?

From my day-to-day use I'd say they're pretty much interchangeable, so curious as to how Firefox 'gives it a good kicking'.

Mouse gestures.
It's the only reason I use FF over IE.

It has less problems/flaws.

It has a whole range of useful plugs ins to aid functionality and allows the user to customise the browser.

It is faster.

It looks better IMHO.

I use both but much prefer Firefox and this is from someone who quite likes a lot of Microsoft stuff.

Briefly checked this out the other day, but i think IE7 is 17.5 Mb download, and FFoxV2 is 5.7MB.

17.5 sounds like a lot !

Our company issued a similar letter because part of our product doesn't work under IE7 until we get a patch out. No big deal as it's some very dodgy Javascript that bends the security model badly; the fix is to remove a +"" !!!!!! We're rengineering this part of the product at the moment as it's probably just a question of when rather than if they close the loophole we are using.

So there is just me and the IT director with IE7.
We both like it!

In terms of normal use there is little difference between IE7 and FF2.
However, had a good look at the FF2 Web Development plugin yesterday.
OMG - It's amazing !!!!
It will save so much time developing and testing web pages.
E.G. Edit a CSS and pin it so that it gets used across the whole site.
E.G. Make DIV, etc structure visible with id's to quickly see page structure
E.G. Easy validation for CSS, HTML and 508
E.G. See form data before it is submitted
E.G. View page cookie content
E.G. Check Page Links which does far more that test whether the target exists.
E.G. Monitor bookmarked web pages for changes

I can see IE7 only being used for product testing....

The Web Development plugin sounds really handy, I'll have a look at that.

I've not seen any appreciable difference in performance between the two, and none of the other stuff realy does it for me. Nice to have maybe, but not the killer difference that there was between IE6 and FF1.x.

I'm interested in the problem/flaws though - I know about the address spoofing flaw, and the Outlook Express flaw that was labelled an IE7 issue, but are there more than those? If there are, a link to a list of them would be great. I try to keep an eye on Secunia, but I'd be interested to hear if there's anywhere else worth checking.

The Firefox Web Developers plug-in is brilliant. You should also try the Firebug plug-in which is also brilliant!

Development - Firefox
Leisure - Safari
