Got a popup saying AVG will not be free after next year. Shame as I have always used them.
So looking through the free stuff thread two have sprung to mind.
Avast
Free-AV

What is the best one that does not take up many resources and sits in the background without being a pain popping up all the time...Or does anyone have anyother suggestions?

Actually the pop up is, to paraphrase:

They are retiring AVG-Free 7.0 and releasing 7.5 please upgrade as we will no longer be releasing updates for earlier versions after the new year.

Download latest version, uninstall old version, install new one and update it. It's all golden again.

avg 7.5 is still available for free, or you could always stump up the 25 quid for a 2 year licence ....

i might even give you a discount if you ask nicely

Paid version has more features (firewall, spam protection and stuff... I think). It's also nice to 'do the right thing', it is worth £25 for 2 years use.
Free version is basically just the AV engine with updates.

Actually it says to download new 7.5 version run it then ask to repair installation. Doesnt even need to uninstall old version... even better.
