Got a call from my father last night...
"All my files have disappeared!!!"
Went round and had a quick look (Hadn't got much spare time, but will pop round again this afternoon)
It appears that when he logs in, he is logging in with a new profile, and hence all of his settings, documents and shortcuts have disappeared.
When I look in C:\Docs and Settings, I can see (for example)
All Users
Administrator (My login to his PC!)
Joe Bloggs
Joe Bloggs.COMPUTERNAME
When I looked at the content of the profiles, it appears that when he logs in using "Joe Bloggs" on the login screen, it logs him into the "Joe Bloggs.COMPUTERNAME" profile.
If I look at users via Control Panel/Users, I can only see the following accounts
Administrator
Guest Account (Disabled)
Joe Bloggs
What I did find strange is that when I logged in as admin, then the profile that I logged into had the same desktop/settings/shortcuts that have always been there.
Whatever has happened has only affected my Dad's login.
Any ideas?!?!

Usually there will be a corrupt or unreadable file of some kind in his profile. If you look in the event log (start/run/eventvwr) and look for error events under the name 'winlogon' it will probably tell you exactly which file there's a problem with. Depending on which file it is you can either delete it, try resetting the permissions or give up and create a new profile.
