Just having a PC built by Scan and looking at their secruity software options the above are the main choices.

Anyone got experience of them and if so how have they worked?

If it's a non-business PC, pick neither and install AVG free yourself.

AVG is only free until Feb 2007 after which you will have to buy it.

Those who have the free edition installed will have to install the pay for it version after Feb.

Wonder how long Zonealarm will keep doing a free version.

I understood that 7.1 free will no longer be updated after feb 2007, but 7.5 free will take over - thats how I interpret what it says on free.grisoft.com anyway..

That is correct.

Gisoft are retiring their whole 7.1 series as it's getting rather long in the tooth.
They're releasing a free version of the 7.5 engine which is newer and perkier that'll operate the same way as the current 7.1 based avg-free.

Why everyone keeps assuming that Grisoft are withdrawing the whole AVG-Free thing I don't know.
