Connect either the VHS player to the DVD recorder with SCART lead.
Hit play on VHS, his record on DVD recorder. Jobs a good un.

Hopefully the 'remove adverts' features of your DVD recorder (if it has them) will take care of any blank frames caused if you get starting them out of sync (i.e. hit record before playback). And at the end of it just dump the output of each tape to a DVD
If it's on a cam-corder tape then replace VHS player with the cam-corder.
Don't even need the computers unless you want to get a capture card and then edit the contents of the tapes before creating the DVD's.

Are they home recorded videos or bought ones? If they are bought ones, you'll need something to remove the Macrovision protection.
I think there was a thread about this a few weeks ago.

If they're home vids, the method above should work fine.

Not quite sure why you would want to do this anyway the quality would be appalling. If you really want the movie then there are lots of ways to download a copy of the movie in digital format then burn that to DVD. Wont even cost you anything if you can find it on a bitorrent.

not bothered about the quality...it will be for the convenience of having it on DVD. I dont have a video player set up in my house as i never use it.

It's a bit expensive, but this should do the job.
You may be able to find somewhere in the UK that sells them, or maybe one on eBay.
