Just dug out an old Nokia 6310i, charged it and put in a sim card. However I get the prompt "Phone restricted" if I press "Undo" I get "Enter restriction code:" no-one who used this phone seems to know what codes may have been entered.

Any ideas how to de-restrict? or is it 'dead'?

Sounds like it may be locked to a specific network and not the same one that the SIM applies to. Do a search on here. Someone posted a link to a website on here a few weeks ago that allows you to unlock this phone free of charge. Definitely works, as I have the same (wonderful) phone.

Normally get this when the phone has been locked to a certain provider (Orange, Virgin, O2, etc.) and you put a different provider's SIM card in. There are ways of getting the phone unlocked so you can use any provider's SIM card - just Google 6310i restriction codes - probably get it done for less than a fiver. The phone won't be faulty so should work fine after unlocking.

You could try this free software first:

What networks it on, The first thing to do is to phone them, they will give you the unlock code for an old beast like that!
If they don't for some reason (maybe they are called some colour or something!) there are thousands of services on the net that will do it for you, you just need you imei number ( press ( *#06# ) and the network it was locked too, If you can't type it's under battery, 14 digits long.

Could be, I tried an O2 sim and I think this phone was on T-Mobile. I've also tried a Vodaphone Sim and that does the same. I have just tried the unlocking on www.trycktill.com which I've used on other phones but it didn't work but I can't access it as it says because I can't get past the "Phone restricted"

Thanks anyway.

OK I was doing it with the Sim in it, according to the websites mentioned above I should do it without. So I've tried without a sim and still not getting anywhere.

I've just spoken to my Dad (who last used this phone) who reckons that it was unlocked and that he had used it on T-mobile and then Vodafone but did not know of any lock code or pin code. So it looks like I've got a paperweight rolleyes

Unless anyone knows differently..........

Phone the provider it was originaly on, tell them you want to use it as Pay As You Go on there network and they'll help.

If you've been trying the codes of the net you need to know what network it is locked too, and you only get so many tries before it becomes impossible to unlock with out sending it off.
Just be aware that if they charge you that you can pick them up for £25-£30!

I tried the online but I think I may have exceeded the no. of tries as it now says "Cannot undo restriction" after trying, rather than the previous "incorrect code".

Oh well it doesn't matter, I was only trying to get it working as a spare for one of the kids, it's not really worth paying a tenner for it.

Thanks for the help chaps.

you only get 5 tries with the codes and it can now only be unlocked with a cable solution.
