I have just upgraded to the Vodafone Blackberry Pearl from the 7130v. Unfortunately I can't get my laptop to recognise it. When I plug in via the USB port the phone screen says: "USB charging current is not sufficient. Verify that your handheld is connected to a powered USB charging source and that the proper USB driver is installed." As a result I can't load it onto the system and get going. I can't get rid of the message when it's connected. I never had any problem with the 7130v or the earlier version. My laptop is a Sony Vaio PCG-6C1M (according to the badge on the back!) If anyone could offer any help I would be very grateful.

Well is it?

It might be pulling a bit more than your previous phones.

Well it's connected to the laptop which is plugged into the mains and all the same as with the 7130v. I assume that's connected to a "powered USB charging source"? Sorry I am not very technical on these things I am afraid.

Dunno about the pearl but all my SE smartphones have had a docking station that has a USB and a charger input so you can charge off the charger rather than the USB.

Do you have Blackberry Desktop Manager and/or BB Device Manager installed?

Sounds like your pearl is trying to draw more power than the limited amount available from your Laptop's USB socket.

I'd say ensure your Pearl is 'plugged in and charging' before trying to connect it to your laptop, OR, buy a powered USB hub and connect your pearl to that.

Either way the pearl is a nice'ish phone, but a cr@p blackberry!

As Dave suggested. B'berry's don't/won't charge unless the software is installed, even though it is USB.
