Potentially may need a factory reset..

What type of router is it?

there should be a reset button somewhere on the unit which will replace the (most probably) admin / admin user / password that it came with.

Powering on with the reset button held until the (i) light flashes should reset it, however that will reset the router completely (ADSL connection included)

LOL - user error...the most common problem with electronic equipment these days

log into the router, check what the settings are on the wireless settings page

tip: theres a menu on the left with options and help text to the right, settings are in the middle !

I gave up on the wireless security and disabled it. Would prefer to have it if I could though.
Surely the Network key is the massive 26 character thingy generated by Windows isn't it? You have to copy ityikesinto the router.

The Wireless Network Set-Up Wizard in the Control Panel I think

Pass.
Presumably the wireless network icon and the local area connection icon would both show as 'live'in that case.

Ric - i'm here but it seems everyone has provided you with the majority of the advice i would give - if you can connect with IE to the "settings" page and have the deafult admin username and password then you should be able to reconfgure the network key and then reconfigure the equivalent setting on your laptop.

What's the current problem?
