I'm told that it's possible to make a bootable CD which runs linux, office, & a browser - i.e. all that I (& often most people) require of a PC. However I've been unable to find it via much googling - has anyone tried this?

thanks

It works, bit slow for day to day use though (CD is much slower than hard drive)

Ubuntu Linux installation CDs are live - that is, they boot up, run and have an "Install" icon on the desktop.

You can try before you buy, as it were.

Kanotix is a good live CD (modified Knoppix), although I believe it has now ceased to be. Easy to install as well, should you decide to. I've heard good things about Mepis as well, but have never used it. There are plenty of smaller distros out there like DSL (or the larger DSL-not), Slax, Puppy and BeaFanatiX, but don't think they have Open Office on as default. BeaFanatiX certainly doesn't (I'm using it now), but it's fairly easy to update.

Whilst Knoppix and co, might have OpenOffice ready to rock. It will take an age to load from the CD. OO.o is a bloody big program. Just an FYI.
