Just bought myself a new HP Laptop.I have got everything set up and obviously all of Windows updates have come in and installed except 1.The following update says it is ready to install,so I click to install it,and it says update is complete.Within a few minutes it tells me it is ready to install again.Although it is not causing a problem it is just annoying me.

Update is : MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB927978)

I dont know if it makes a difference but I am running Windows XP Media Centre Edition

Interestingly enough I have this one 'stuck' in the queue as well, I suspect it's a bad update that won't install properly. It's annoyed me now so I'll report back after a good google.

Ok, initial investigation leads me to believe this is a goof on the part of Microsoft. The update is specifically for MSXML4 SDK and not the runtime libraries that ship with XP-SP2. In essence this is an update that only a developer should recive.

Fortunately it's easy enough to clear you the queue.
Download this http://download.microsoft.com/downloa and install it. Do not reboot when prompted (I didn't need to in order to accomplish this).

Download this http://download.microsoft.com/downloa and when run it, when prompted click "Remove" and work your way through the installer.

Click Start > Shutdown, Select "Shutdown" and allow Windows to apply the update.

Fix taken from a post here: http://help.wugnet.com/windows/MSXML-

The update is no longer jammed on my system having done this.

Thanks very much for that. What I did was found the update in add/remove programs and deleted it,then I let the update install again and it seems to have solved it. Thanks for your help

Cool.
Oddly enough it wasn't showing in my A/R programs... all the others were though. *shrug* Yay Microsoft eh?
