Ok, bear with me here!

I have an idea which I believe, is pretty good and most of all unique. (based on the little bit of reasearch i've done)

I am unsure if it's possible though (that's why i'm here) I need to speak to someone who can develop / produce software and just have a chat to, to see if the idea I have is possible??? If it is we could maybe set up a partnership and get working together? I have other businesses that are important to me (too important to spend mucho time and money on this ides) HOWEVER I do think its good enough to pursue...

I would like it if you have some work I can look at and also would be great if you are a likeminded 20something year old looking to develop a simple idea which, in turn, could result in global domination.
(that last part may not be true lol)

The idea I have may already be done , it may not be possible, (you may think its pants) although I would like to discuss it with someonbe in 'the know' to see if it has potential.

Any takers?

Regards,

Sam

You'd do well to state what specific industry your idea is in, and any other details you can without giving things away so people know whether it's worth biting.

Then get an NDA ready and don't talk until it is signed.

Ok - I'll tell more. Like I say it's not something that I could devote all my time to although it may have potential.

Basically it's to do with desktop wallpaper's. (Its the program that automatically changes your wallpaper each day) It HAS been done before but not as widely as I would expect? (should have done more reasearch rolleyes)

Anyway, I think there is potential with the informative / learning side of things....

Sounds a bit crap now although I would like to do something?

I'd put a bit more thought into it. 3 minutes with googles reveals

What's the thing that would make people pay for it OR make it profitable? Don't answer outloud but you need an answer for that question.

Anecdote: My fiancee's boss has made his considerable millions turning ideas in to businesses and turning them into sold businesses. At a conference he was invited to speak at in the US, some few thousand people there, he asked how many people had a killer business idea. He got them to stand up. Almost everyine stood up. He asked those who had turned the idea into at leat a million dollars to stay standing. Only a handful stayed on their feet, him included.

His view is that to make an idea (a half decent one that is) work is almost all to do with the person and not the idea.

Not worth it mate, OS X will do that for a start, and something as simple as that would most likely be freeware anyway. Best idea is to work your way into industry, get some experience and like minded people and eventually a niche will present itself. If you're just after squillions of money you need to find a real killer idea, or start at the bottom and work hard (Alan Sugar sold tvs out the back of a van to begin with!) Try reading some biographies as well...

I saw that also, do you think there is a market to use it as a learning tool? I mean it sits in front of you all day... maybe we could be learning at the same time. I would love to learn about for example: classic cars - If we had a different one each day with simple facts on the screen also - Date of manufacture top speed etc.. that would be useful or if someone wanted to learn about different breeds of dogs , different dog each day. There is lots of freeware to make you able to do it but no available products as such (at least, thats intresting) Could it be provided to companys like FHM to create a 'High street honeys' version? I know they could do it themselves, just easyier to get someone else to do it...
The main problem with this idea , apart from the fact its already been done hehe(quite a big problem that!) it's also how to make money from it.... I havent actually got to taht stage. Logo's on the desktops? The car one could be funded by Shell. The dog one by dog food? etc.
As a product ie off the shelf in a shop I think it could be quite good. I wouldn't pay much for one but i would buy a car one if it was good.
Just thinking aloud!

Thanks for the advice, I like to think I have a few good ideas - the good ones I'm working on atm. One's that I think don't really warrent much time or money, I don't really care as much about hence posting here...
I am still intrested in this type of product as I have never had dealings with software etc before! Always looking to learn nerd

Thanks for the comments - its good speaking to people who know.

I think branded content would be the way forward, but not so heavily branded that you wouldn't want the images as desktops (ie, they still make good images with subtle branding rather than blatent adverts)

There would probably be scope in delivering the content over the internet, so that new images could be added/removed from the library periodically - in your FHM example it could be a monthly photoshoot.

The other thing I'd say is that it would have to be totally free to the user, otherwise people would simply use another package. I think there could be a few different ways to generate revenue with a program like this, but whether it would be particularly lucrative I don't know...

Windows can still have a webpage as the desktop, so it's hard to see what software you need to develop.

Good point, well made...

Too add to this - this would be a fantastic start to test your system as it would require no user end software development, the same branded content business model could apply although with a web pages it would be quite tempting to go overboard with the advertising...
