Hi Folks,

My Canon PIXMA iP4000 is printing gobbledegook when I try to print a PDF file. For some reason my HP printer at work also does this occasionally so it can't just be the Canon.

Anyone heard of this and know what causes it and therefore how to rectify it?

Cheers,

Phil

a) is it all PDFs or just one - it could be corrupt
b) have you the latest printer drivers installed

good luck

It's all PDFs and I do have the latest drivers. It's most bizarre as it only seems to do it intermittantly.

File/print, Advanced, 'Print as image'

Failing that try updating the printer drivers from the canon website, and getting the latest version of the Adobe Reader too

If it's random characters then 'hmm'. If its random words that are redable but utter gibberish to you then it could be trying to print postscript... which is weird if the printer can't support it usually the drivers let Windows know this.

Try Aldi's suggestion and poke around the drivers and your PDF program for anything to do with "PostScript" or "PS" and turn it off.

Yeah - this is often a case where the printer, or rather the print driver, doesn't support the font(s) of the PDF, and they haven't been embedded in the original PDF document. Postscript fonts are the usual culprit.

As for the solution... as above. Have a dig around looking for "unsupported fonts" or suchlike.
