Dell? Pretty good build, nice waranty. They usually have deals on the new kit this time of year and you can pick up some good refurb stuff.

Just bought a Fujitsu Siemens L7320GW laptop for my daughter from Staples for a quid under £400 (1G RAM, 80GB HD, DVD burner, wide screen, XP Home) - seems pretty good for the price.

Thirded, got BG junior a cracking laptop for Christmas for £429, good spec, wifi, media etc etc. Fast service too, ordered it late Monday evening, delivered Friday am.
