Hi all,

Sorry, I couldn't find a phone section.

It's time to upgrade my phone. I'm after a Blackberry Pearl. Does anyone know of any good online offers at the moment, or is it wise to stay from them and buy in-store?.

And if anyone has a pearl, would be great to hear some feedback.

Any advise appreciated!

cheers,

ben

Fantastic phone, don't think I have any complaints with it whatsoever. Takes a while to get used to the menus if you are used to a Nokia or similar though. The trackball is a work of genius. So simple to use. It's amazing no one has thought of it before.

I got mine on a free upgrade from O2 and I think it is free on any tariff over £30. So online you could probably get free gifts and stuff if that's your thing. You will also have to pay £10-15 per month for the Blackberry features. If you don't subscribe to this it isn't data enabled so you won't be able to send/receive MMS or use the web browser.

ETA just remembered something I didn't like about it when I got it but hasn't bothered me as much as it did with previous phones: It can't ring and vibrate at the same time. It can only do vibrate then ring

Ive just despatched mine to the bottom of a drawer.

I got fed up with dropped calls, poor call quality and getting electrocuted when the phone was on charge.

I have a 'pearl' and have had all the blackberries from their introduction.

The pearl is different to previous blackberries because it's much smaller and a decent phone. It has a camera that's quite good etc etc you probably know all this.

I use mine mostly for email and that works fine. However if you know how to touch type (I do) then it takes a while to get used to it as the text is partially predictive as ASDF, for example is shared on two keys only.

Now I've had it for a while, I like it. But as with all things blackberry, it's really an email machine and a phone second.

I have a perl and love it. I dislike the suretype feature but that isn't a big problem as I just turned it off.

There are some small problems with the phone but most can be cured with either an upgrade/settings change.

There is a wealth of software out there for the phone plus customisable themes and the like so you can configure the phone however you like.

The Perl is by a long way the best phone I have ever had. Lots of functionality, looks fab, has superb battery life/call quality and does everything I need (push email/good traditional phone/texting etc).

I have just bought the Ericsson M600i, and I love it. Much better build quality. The only lacking user thing is no camera, but I never used the old one anyway.

Just my 2p

Maybe you've got a dodgy one? I haven't had any of those problems.

I would suggest that would be a warranty replacement job.

I've had my Pearl for a couple of weeks now and am very impressed. Got it thru' work with unlimited data!

Signal strength is far better than my Nokia 6230, so I don't have to stand at the window at home to make a call! It has never dropped a call.

Hook it up to computer to sync and it charges the battery - only when I first got it did I use the mains charger.

The Sure Type is excellent, sort of advanced 'predictive text'. If you are a texter it could take some getting used to but it is worth the effort. It's far more like typing on a reglar keyboard.
The Pearl can 'learn' and so far I have found that it's good at doing that. I have sent a few emails with brand names/technical terms in etc. and second time round it knows the words.

Email & web browsing are faster than dial up but obviously slower than BB! The built in browser seems to work fine, tried mini opera but went back to the built in one.

Address book is good with the ability to put in multiple numbers, email addresses etc. I could go on but you get the picture!

Overall it's a great bit of kit.

For help etc. have a look at
www.blackberryforums.com
American biased but still plenty of UK people on there. Also links to other Blackberry sites, software downloads etc.

The only negative thing I can say about it is that if you have big fingers than the keys could be a little small.

Good post.

Benojir, you will have to let us know how it all goes and if you like it.

The suretype does take some getting used to and I don't txt a great deal I haven't been bother to invest enough time in it.

I mostly do calls/email.

Lee,
Sorry I didn't make it clear about texting.
What I meant to say was that if you were used to texting on a normal phone with the 3/4 letters per key it could take some getting used to the Sure Type/Pearls keyboard. But it is worth the effort!

Another thumbs up for the Pearl, had mine a couple of weeks and is far better than the 7100 it replaced, its looks good too.
I especially like the summary page allows you to view up and coming events on the calender whilst keeping you up to speed with missed calls/texts/e-mails.

My finger appeared to slip on Ebay this afternoon and I managed to get one at a good price.

I assume that I can hook it up to my works email server as well as having my personal pipex email and domain email going to it??

It depends whether your work have the Blackberry server extensions installed and whether they are prepared to pay for a licence for you to use it!

There's loads of people who already have company ones so I assume the answer is yes?

I just wanted to know if I could use work and personal email on the same unit?
