Ok i stream videos and pictures from my PC to my 360 but in order to do this i need to start something called Windows Firwall ICS service (internet connection sharing)but whenever i turn the PC off and back on it always stops itself. I would like to know how to keep it turned on all the time.

Thank-You.

I'm doing this from memory, but something like;

Control panel -> Services -> find ICS & select it -> Properties -> Start at System boot.

That sounds a bit NT4 to me try control panel/admistrative tools/services/find the service & double click/set startup type to 'automatic'

If its allready on auto and still stops on boot, post back!

Ahh. All this fancy stuff is really designed for Windows Media Centre edition (at which point it magically 'just works')... I think your buggered personally and will need to keep manually starting the service.

Unless someone else has found a way around it?

Ditch the USB modem and buy a router.

That way you dont have to arse about with ICS

A workaround of sorts....

Create a trusty batch file with one line in it

net start nameofserviceyouwantotstart

Stick a shortcut to the batch file in your startup group and it will start the service once you are logged on. And as Plotty says, buy a router.

In that case I'm struggling to understand why you need ICS

Xbox>Router
PC>Router

The Xbox should just see Connect on the PC as a network resource.

Look in the event viewer (same place as the services icon), check the 'system' section of it and see what reason the ICS/firewall service gives for stopping or failing to start the first time - that should give us something to work with.

Possibly something like 'service control manager' - look at the error events with a time plus and minus a few minutes of when you booted the computer up.

You don't need ICS running.

What you need are the following services up and running on your pc
UPnP
HTTP SSL (I think)
Windows media connect

You may also need to open windows media connect and reset the windows firewall settings.

If that doesn't work, then go into your router settings and forward the ports opened in the windows firewall to your pc. For some strange reason on my Belkin router I also needed to disable uPnP at the router level to get it to all work.

Then...

Reboot your pc, makes Windows media connect starts up, check that it can still see your xbox.
Reboot your xbox, go into the system menu on the xbox and disconnect the pc from the xbox. Then go into media, select video and search for a windows pc on your network.

If everything has gone to plan, then it should find your pc again and all will be well...

ok Neil, upon turning the PC on i have 2 errors one of which is DHCP and the other is DCOM.

DHCP is - The IP address lease XXXX for the Network Card with network address 00111166C3E2 has been denied by the DHCP server XXXX (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

DCOM is - The server {C49E32C6-BC8B-11D2-85D4-00105A1F8394} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
