Can any one help me..?

I have replaced a motherboard on my fathers HP desktop but was unable to find the original CD to run a repair... thinking that any XP CD would do the trick I used a non-OEM to boot from and run the repair.. All was good until.

When after clicking on the login I got asked to reactivate the licence but it refused the genuine licence key on side of the box.. Im guessing this is because I have used an xp pro disk to do the repair?

I’m now stuck as I don’t have a copy of the OEM disk and don’t want to purchase a new licence...

I have heard that you can get copies of the CD from microsoft at a small cost does anyone have any ideas where I can get one from??

Should be able to get one from HP.
Or just call and reactivate XP, assuming you have Home installed and not pro this should not be an issue.

as The_Burg says - phone the Microsoft activation phone number (it will tell you that when you try and activate) - explain it is a rebuild and they'll talk you through the activation procedure.

Spoke to MS and they said that I have to contact my reseller (HP) as the Key is invalid www.pistonheads.com/gassing/icons/7.gif

I can login using the admin account in safe mode but will have to wait and see what HP say...

Thanks for the info

in that case just grab a WGA and activation patch as you are legal anyway.
