Just working away this morning on my laptop and have now found that a line of blue pixels has appeared right down the right hand side of my WUXGA screen.mad

Have I succumbed to the dreaded stuck pixels?

I have no desire to buy another £1500 laptop right now and will be really annoyed if it's there permenantly.

Will opening the computer up and cleaning the monitor connections help or is it terminal?

Terminal I think.... Pixels generally die individually as far as I understand it. It sounds like one of the driver chips has keeled over to me. Similar thing happened to my plasma tv and that was terminal.

Will this be covered under warranty? I still have around a year left on it.

Sounds like you have a loose/damaged connection somewhere, as a constant blue line across the screen is something not earthing properly.

I have a few dead pixels on my laptop but there are black not blue.

Agreed, panel / video card failing will be covered under the warranty of the unit. Get in touch with them pronto to get the ball rolling.

Must say I am quite impressed. 3 year warranty as standard and they are sending an engineer out tomorrow.

Could be. Although the 3yr next business day warranty is standard on Dell's XPS range of laptops & desktops. Then again, Rock or Dell, it'll probably be the exact same service engineer who'd show up, just flashing a different ID

I didn't know that. scratchchin But I think it's fair to say if you're dropping £1,500 for equipment then next business day shouldn't be an optional extra.

Paid just short of £1500 for my first laptop and that only came with 1 years RTB about 4 years ago. It's been dropped down a flight of stairs eek and traveled Oz in a tent for 6 months but it's still going strong and my daughter uses it nearly everyday.

PS it's a ROCK and they do ROCK even if they are clones

Ok, I can rephrase that if you want... add "modern, 21st century,"

Ahh, they're all clones these days; I think their are only 5 companies that produce laptop chassis (the actual mobo + base plastics) and everyone just tinkers with them or orders custom colours. Strangly enough Mitac is one of them, the old Alienware AMD64 laptops and the Acer Ferrari looked oddly similar to my Novatech 'Crossfire' which was a Mitac

Just to alay your curiosity, it's a Dell Inspiron 9200. Around 2 years old. Guy turned up today with a nice new WUXGA screen, fitted it in 5 min and left.

Sorted.

Excellent. On the downside my Gen 2 just blew it's video RAM again.
On the upside the XPS tech support guy told me Dell no longer supply the 6800 Ultra, so unless the engineer has one on his shelf (unlikley) then I'm looking at an upgrade to the next unit up... so a 7000 or 8000 class unit will be sent to him. Bonus!

*crosses fingers* Please Santa bring me an 8800 on a mini-agp please hehe
