flat screen tellys - flickering
Discussion
Thinking of getting a flat screen but been looking at them in a few shops whilst waiting for the misses(admittedly Argos and tesco so not top end)but they appear to flicker. They have been showing high definition demos and when a yacht sails across the screen or they scan across a forest they appear to flicker, is it my eyes or are they a bit naff compared to crt?

Depends on the TV, most likely the shop TVs will have every possible image "enhancement" technology switched on and set to maximum, which could cause the effect you are seeing.
If you have a specific set you are interested in, I'm sure there are a few on here who could give you an honest review.

Also are you sure they are hi def demos? When I was lookinf for a new TV in the spring I went to Curry's or Comet for a look and they had a demo, supposidly showing the difference between hi and std. def which all looked a bit naf. Checked round the back and the TV's were connected via RF cables, I assume to some junction box which was being fed by a PC, probably over S-Video
However all HD TV's in the UK are progressive and the cheaper ones do have problems deinterlacing interlaced images which can cause flicker.
