Wow... an acoustic coupler... haven't used one of those for a few years!

I did a work placement at ICI Pharmaceuticals when I was about 16. There was an old store cupboard that had a redundant teletype printer dumped in it... something not disimilar to this



I spent all my lunch times dialed into various BBs using the printer plugged into an acoustic coupler, plugged into an old phone that I wired into a spare pair I 'discovered' running through the ceiling space.

Kids today... don't know nuffink...
