Same as title.
I am now running AMD 3800+ CPU, 2gb ram, 360Gb HD and 160Gb incremental backup disk and a few other bells/whistles.
If I upgrade to 65 bit XP will I gain anything in speed ?
Also if I do take that jump can I install it without losing all my settings/programs?

Nope - unless you have any 64-bit specific programs to run it'll spend its entire life emulating 32-bit, so why bother?

Stick with 32-bit.

The majority of programmes and games will not run under 64-bit so as said in the previous post, you would jsut have to emulate 32 bit anyways

If you really hate yourself that much there is a 180 day trial on the MS website to try it for nowt. I'd probably not bother

I've got neither a 64-bit machine nor a 64-bit app, so haven't tried it. Apart from there being no point if you don't have 64-bit apps, what's so bad about it?

You know you see me whinging about Vista lacking driver support? Well, every developer on the known planet skipped xp-64 and went to write for Vista. So even if you did have a 64bit App to run you would need to really check the compatibility list and/or track down native drivers.

If you really need 64bit then go with Vista

Going by the replies I have bever heard such praise for a product before
So when vista comes out, will it be a 32bit OR 64 bit version or does it mean that anything non 64bit is classed as too old anyway to bother with supporting.

Like XP, it'll be available as both. From reading this story it looks like it'll be the same deal as 64-bit XP - if your hardware, your drivers, and your application all support 64-bit, then it's the best choice. If not, it isn't.
