Help please

I have been having a few problems with my laptop, a couple of weeks ago it got to the point that I had to reformat and reinstall. Today I finally got round to reinstalling The Da Vinci Code game, now it worked fine before the reformat etc, but today when I put installed it and went to run the game I got the following message....

EXCEPTION_ACCESS~_VIOLATION

(slayer) Exception address 4e299c

[no game crash info]

IMAGE HELP STACK:
TArchive:perator=+DBC9C

MAP FILE STALKWALK

And then of course the ok button.

Can anyone please tell me what all this means? and why is it not working now when it worked before?

Many thanks

Run Windows Update, make sure you get everything. Annoyingly more than one game I've encountered is using .NET so grab those as well (and the critical updates that will be triggered after a reboot). Then make sure the game is the latest version, go to the website and download any updates for it. Make sure DirectX is as up to date possible.

Uninstall the game.

Do the above.

Relinstall the game.

The reason for this is that many games make decisions based on the hardware it thinks is available at install, Getting all your updates and drivers sorted gives it a better chance of getting it right on reinstall.
