We bought one of our daughter's an Ipod Nano for Christmas. However, when I plug it into my PC it wants to transfer all of my music onto her Nano. How do I get the two units operating seperately on the same PC - anyone know?

I don't belive you can have two complete libraries per iPod. Best bet would be to tell iTunes to let you manually manage the music and do it that way.

You can create a playlist and associate it to the 2nd ipod - can't remember how though!

maybe give the kid her own pc account instead of having everyone using the same account

i run in administrator mode all the time as many games don't like user mode and sometimes want to install stuff...

Cheers, that's exactly what I've just done and it's working a treat!

I have a video ipad and my gf has a nano, both running off the same pc.

I assume you are running the latest itunes? As each ipod is treated independently on my setup, with settings specific to each. I didn't have to do anything special, just plug it in and follow the prompts...

I've not tried plugging them both in at the same time however.

I do this - as per puggit suggestion above, best way is to create a playlist and associate it to the 2nd ipod.
Your full library will continue to sync to first iPod.

How to....

Create a playlist - say called "Daughters iPod", then drag whatever tracks you want on the new iPod from the main library into this new folder (these tracks will continue to also 'remain' in main library). Plug in the second iPod, select it from the "Devices" list on left-hand-side. Select the Music tab, under "Sync Music", un-tick "all-songs" and tick "Selected Playlists", and tick the "Daughters iPod" list.

You could also do same for your original iPod if you don't want any new (daughters) stuff polluting your iPod. Once you've done the initial copy from library to playlist, it's just a case of making sure any new music added to library is added to one or both playlists, as appropriate.

The wife and I have an ipod each, with over 7000 songs loaded into itunes. Somewhere in the settings, you can stop it automatically syncing with the ipod, and one add or remove the tunes you want manually.

No problems!

Slightly more worrying to me is the fact itunes will let you register upto 5 pc's to play it's songs on. Having just bought a new laptop to replace the worn out desktop, that's classed as pc number 2. So in a few years time, will i no longer be able to use itunes? Surely there is a de-register section on line. (desktop has died a death, so can't do it from there!)

well.. you can deauthorise from the desktop! But as that is dead i'm guessing that will be tricky.
