I am currently writing an client application that sends SQL statements through a CORBA interface to a CORBA server which in turn executes this on a database and sends back the results. Before you say why... I know... the industry I am in has defined some rubbish standards that I have to adhere to.

I am using C#.NET and the usual way to talk to databases is through a command object and collection of parameters. Easy-peasy as this takes care of all the date formatting ect… The trouble is this makes you a bit lazy and you forget how SQL statements should be properly formatted.

Now from my memory of doing things ‘the old way’ you used to have to wrap up the following types with the following qualifiers…

String “string”
Char ‘c’
Date ‘dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm:ss’ but given the annoyances with regional settings... ‘dd.mmm.yyyy hh:mm:ss’

I have downloaded the 18mg 9 file ISO/IEC 9075:2003 (SQL:2003) standard but I haven’t managed to dig out the right section.

Are there others I can’t remember?

TIA.

EDIT: Spelling...
