Now I know people in here like their gadgets so I suspect some of you have considered one remote to replace all your other ones controlling your AV equipment, TV, DVDs, etc, etc.

The Logitech Harmony 555 gets great reviews but seems to sell for about £80 virtually everywhere. Its over £65 even on ebay.

Anyway yesterday I found it for £43 on www.pixmania.com

Figured a few people might suddenly get very interested at that price level. Seems a bargain to me.

Just be aware that Pixmania aren't in the UK; they're in France, and the products they supply are not UK products.

We purchased an LCD photo frame from there recently and it arrived with a continental plug (two-pronged) and a French manual. They say on their site that they supply a UK adapter but we had to chase them a couple of times for one. They also eventually supplied an English photocopied manual.

The Wikipedia page on Pixmania is interesting scratchchin

Very good prices though; as you say about £30 off.

Good price. I paid about £50 for a 525, and it is generally excellent.

Pixmania emailed me asking me to remove my low feedback of them on amazon market place. They took 2 weeks to post my item, even though it was "in stock". I had also selected the rapid courier post option.

I refused, as if an item is in stock I would consider it reasonable to post within a couple of business days. Incidently the courier managed to get it from France to the UK in 48 hours which was fine.

I have dealt with Pixmainia before Christams to buy an LCD TV, they are completely useless, product arrived with no plug or power cable, no scart lead, no remote and a photocopy of a French Langauge manual, they are still to collect the useless pile of c-ap they delivered or to refund my cash.

I'd suggest they are getting stock through grey channels to sell at that price.

Alternatively they may have done a deal on thousands of them.

Take it from a Harmony dealer, that price for the 555 is VERY VERY VERY agressive.

Out of interest, does anyone have one of these?

I've struggled through various multiple device controllers, and never found a particularly good one. I currently have a touch screen LCD thing which I simply can't get to control my sky box, and a fancy "chameleon" one which wont do my DVD player.

Both apparently have "training" modes, but I can't get this working either, or otherwise only on certain useless functions. Since the entire point of these things is to only have one remote, it's very frustrating to still need two or more.

I find the biggest problem is that my TV and AV receiver have very complicated remotes, which these all in one things can't replicate in any useful way.

They are very good and the database of equipment is now enormous.

Basically you connect the remote up to the PC and select through the software the devices you have by model number.

The software then downloads the IR control codes and commisions the remote so everything works as if controlled by your individual remotes.

Theres no learning as such as its already been done for you.

If you have a device not in the database then the software can learn in the standard way but I've not needed to use this yet.

If Pixmania ever deliver it I'll let you know what it's like - also have TVs / DVDs / VCR / Combis and AV kit to hopefully all get working from the one remote.

I had one of the older 525's at home and found it very good. If you can not get it going then thier tech support is excellent and free to call.

Went back to standard remotes when we upgraded the TV as we only had 2 devices, now we are back at 4 I might need to break it out again.

Yes please plotters!

I've just been looking at what these can do, if I understand it correctly, you press "DVD" and it turns on your DVD, TV, and AMP, then switches the inputs on the TV and AMP to the DVD output.

One button to get everything going! Worth every penny!

If you think these are good, then you might want to check out:

I got one of these as a christmas pressie - a bit fiddly to set up (like the harmony, you access monsters on-line database of av components) but now that it's done, it's fantastic!

Yes, it'll switch all your av components onto the right settings for dvd watching, then back for tv watching and it will control the sky box - but what's best is that it works on a combination of IR and RF (if you have the Omnilink component) which means you can use it anywhere in the house. So provided you have sky connected around the house, you can change channels etc. from any room. Brilliant!

There are also controllers to fix to your lighting so that you set 'romantic lighting moods for tv watching' at the same time!

It's brought a whole new experience to settling down with the missus for Corrie!

The 555 i'm getting does that too! So much easier than poking the missus in to doing it.

Dont know about the 360, if its got an IR eye then yes, probably.

Depending on what lighting you have then yes to that as well. I have one controlling a couple of lamps that I have for testing purposes.

If i remember correctly I think the monster remote is actually based on the harmony system. IRRC it is based on the 895 Pro which offers Z-Wave and X10 compatability.

Plotty, I need to call the importer tomorrow (if I remember) so I'll check on the availibilty of the 1000 as someone on AVforums wants to know as well.
