Pegasus Opera data migration into Sage 2007
Discussion
Hello all!
I have been tasked this year with migrating all the stock and bill of materials with the conveyor company I work with into Sage 2007.
Opera is an old DOS (Windows front end) 16 bit application. although its performs quite well, support has now ended for this product. Our company policy is to streamline our methods, and Sage looks like the ideal solution.
I have a vast amount of data to get over into Sage, but can find a way to "global" export off of the data in one chunk. I dont seem to be able to see the data structures just individual components when I try to convert the DBF files.
We have an excellent lady in the office who is willing to enter this information manualy, but feel that there must be a better solution, as I dont want to be that cruel!

From memory as a minimum you need the ?_cname table and the ?_cstruc table to get the assemblies and sub assemblies out. It is not necessarily an easy task though as although there is a data dictionary available it dosent actually contain information about relationships between tables. Opera was developed in Foxpro 2.6 where there was no concept of a central depositry for table definitions and relationships between tables etc.
I will have a dig about to see if I can find my old digrams that shows the relationships between Opera tables.
You would have been far better off upgrading to Opera 2.

daft question
have you spoken to sage to see if they have written any import/export routines for just this function
opera 2 would have been a good way to go it is far more superior and is also SQL based

The trouble is Opera II, was quoted to us at £20,000. Our Sage 2007 costs us nothing and seems to do what we need.
I have printed out the lat response and have just been staring at it. Diagrams would be a help!
