POP3 mail in Outlook without a dial-up connection
Discussion
Hopefully someone can help me with this one... I have an XP machine at home, XP professional but with fast user-switching enabled so in fact it behaves more like an XP Home Edition machine. My wife uses it for her business stuff on one (standard user) log-on, I use it as my home PC on an admin login. We switch between each other a bit so fast user-switching must remain (even though it's a right PITA in some ways and dumbs-down a lot of the menus).
I recently set up a wireless access point and put a WLAN card in the machine, purely for internet access (file and print sharing unchecked, no drives shared) and can access the web fine in both logins. The Belkin card utility was causing endless issues in her login until I removed it from the "all users" startup tray and just put it in mine, despite me checking the "let windows control my wireless network settings" tab in both accounts. Anyway, all works fine for web access but when I try and do a send/recieve for POP3 mail in my wife's login (I don't use it) the thing tries to dial the old ADSL modem connection, it doesn't seem to realise it's connected. I can't see any options in outlook to stop this. Anyone got any ideas? I don't really want to try removing the modem dial-up profile from the system as it's a useful backup and my wife needs a reliable machine...

OK, thanks, was wondering about whether the windows and/or IE settings were used by Outlook (it's Outlook not Outlook Express) - as this seems to have no settings for this of its own! It has settings for warning before dialing a connection, but no "do not dial a connection" settings I can see. Annoying, as you say!
