I've got business internet banking with Barclays, it uses a PCMCIA smart card reader.

I'm thinking of swapping my iBook for a MacBook Pro. Anyone have any experiences of running PCMCIA cards, particularly a Gemplus card reader via XP on a MacBook Pro?

Don't really want to have to get a wintel laptop just for banking, and carry two machines about.

MBP's only have an express34 (express card) slot. If you want PCMCIA on it then you'll need an usb pcmcia reader which aren't to expensive. Also, gemplus do a slim usb card reader which should work. Barclays probably offer a usb card reader for desktop users which should be fine with a laptop. Generally most USB devices work fine on macs under xp, if you are using bootcamp - not too sure about parallels however.

Cheers, I've got an old USB PCMCIA adpater that I was planning on using. Friend of mine works for Gemplus, I'll ask about the USB reader, and speak to Barclays.

Can't see any reason why it won't work, just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it.

Gemplus do USB card readers too, not sure about mac compatibility though.
