I have just bought a Belkin router and its all setup and running.

I can play all the music that is on my pc, but its not playing all the video files.
Its not playing ANY of the 4 films that I downloaded off the net either.

I have opened the window media connect box and allowed access to these folders, but no joy.
Can anyone help please?

Thanks
Cad

I bet the videos are in the wrong format. You can install transcode 360 to transcode them on the fly if you have a beefy pc.

Nope. The ones that DO play are the same format as the ones that won't; mpeg

Not quite the same, but when accessing the My Pictures folder on the PC from the Xbox, only about 75%work, the others causes the Xbox to drop the connection.

Does yours drop the connection on the ones it can't play?

Mpeg 2?

Do they preview in the media center video selection page?

Sorry mate. I've only just started using the media center today. All that happens is the list comes up on the left hnd side. You click on one, it takes you to next page, and you click play. No review.

Do you know if you have the right codecs installed?

At the very least you should have DivX, see www.divx.com.

What happens is the Media Centre box translates the video from whatever format through to the WMV format and streams that to your 360. If you cannot play them on your WMC box, you're not going to get them on your 360.

Are you running Vista? It has a great troubleshooting tool...

I assume you mean 'Windows Media Connect' box? Because thats the only box that appears in which to work with. If not, how do I get the Windows Media Center box up? I've looked in the control panel and no joy.
Yes, I do have DivX btw.

Thanks

Wireless or wired network? Wireless won't have the bandwidth. That could be the reason.

Do you have Windows XP Media Centre Edition? Or are your streaming from Windows XP?

The Xbox 360 cannot play divx encoded videos without using something like transcode360.
The fact that your videos are all labelled as mpeg, doesn't mean they have all been encoded the same, so having some that work and some that doesn't isn't really significant.

Wired. But using a wireless router, because every bloody router in the shops are wireless. I had a nightmare of a time in PC w051d.
To say their staff are clueless is a masterpiece of understatement.

Not at all, just means you either need to convert your videos before playing them.

See if that helps you out.
