Well had SKY+ fitted on 9th Dec and have already had one box replaced. We have had the second one about a week now and when you put it on standby at night then get up in the morning and turn it on it comes up with "Technical Fault", if you change channel that one will work and if you go back to the original channel it works.

Any ideas, just a pain in the arse really. The old box (brandnew) went back because of the recording playback not working, however it did do this a few times too.

Any comments appreciated

I'd suggest you've still got issues. Either with the box or the LNB. I can't see all the people who praise Sky+ putting up with that cruft.

Don't have that problem with my sky + box, but sometimes do with my regular box.

Generally happens when there's a bad storm, and the signal is temporarily lost.

What's the signal quality / strength like?

3/4 signal strength on SKY+ box and on my multi room box, does not happen on my older bopx which is now in the bedroom

Had this twice in 3 months with my (second) Sky+ box - both times during bad weather / heavy rain etc

Mine has never done that in 18 months. The only issue is if you live pause, then restart with less than a couple of seconds as the hard drive cannot read and write quick enough. I usually do this to stop the "red button" appearing

I had this problem with my sky box, did they fit any new cables?

Found that when it rained there would be water in the Cable/LNB, whoever fitted the cable had strapped the cable up with cable ties and over-tightend them and split the cable resulting in water in both the LNB and cable.

Had this a couple of times.
Best solution is to never put it into standby

Water in the coax is indeed a killer.

Yes, don't normally touch ours apart from Channel changes. Switching off at the Sky+ front panel and then restart using just the Sky button on the handset usually sorts problems.
Windy weather is a pain.

Slightly off topic - I wouldn't have thought that's a brilliant idea. When the box is on it's recording and therefore using the HDD, which is essentially a consumable only designed to work for so many hundreds of thousands of hours.

To respond to the initial post, it's funny you should mention that. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I have noticed this 2-3 times since Christmas and I have never noticed it before, tried flicking back and forward a channel but it didn't work. I had to go into the planner and re-select the channel - worked fine??

Never was a problem with my Tivo box that was on 24/7, nor is a problem with my pc that is on 24/7.

The consumable life of a hard disk is likely to be well above the life of your current TV wtching kit anyway, and stopping and starting the box could arguably do more damage than leaving it to constantly record...
