My fault. Was very kindly bought a Microsoft natural keyboard and have just got to plugging it in, used it for a few hours and suddenly I’ve realised that it isn’t a uk spec one without a pound sign!!!

Is there anyway I can set it to ‘use’ the pound sign when pressing a certain key or am I doomed to pressing Alt something or other!!!

Just set the language to UK on the PC and use shift+3

to change to UK:

start control panel > regional & language options > Languages > Details > Add > Change top box to UK and bottom will also change > OK > remove US > click OK > Regional Options > set to English (United Kingdom)

I did the same thing... at the moment I am resorting to UKP when I need it... since when I map to UK I lose other keys, such as the |.

1) Find which key does produce a pound sign via trial & error
2) Draw pound sign on said key with magic marker
3) Profit!

Alternatively, here's one you can copy & paste: £

Hope this helps

Just press and hold down ALT and then press 156 on the numeric pad on the right.

I wouldn't map your keyboard to uk as it will feck up a lot of the other keys as well, as has been said.

Use this

www.shortkeys.com/lite.htm

It runs in the background and you can set a sequence of keypresses to input any text you want.
You can then remap a short key sequence (2 keys would do it "zz" for example) to overwrite with a £ sign quite easily, just don't choose something that will end up throwing £ signs in the middle of words

I actually use this for smilies in forums, for instance on mine pressing /homo/ becomes the full webaddress for complete with the [img] tags and everything - very handy.

Free version is not time limited but only lets you have 15 keystrokes.

Thanks TC, that will help lots.

I must admit to wondering why you need a shortcut to that smiley though!

The smilie actually sees quite heavy use - certain PH members like RandleMarcus for example often require me to question "What are you, some sort of ?"
